Canada forward Promise David’s MRI on his surgically repaired hip revealed no setbacks as the forward continues his remarkable push to get healthy in time for the FIFA World Cup, multiple sources confirm to TSN.
Since rupturing a hip tendon back in February while playing for his club Union Saint-Gilloise, the 24-year-old David has followed an accelerated timeline for an injury that can have a three-to-six-month recovery period.
Nevertheless, sources also say the Brampton, Ont. native’s MRI results are only a part of his ongoing medical evaluation as both the Canadian and Union SG medical staffs are being careful not to rush David into a setback.
Canada’s pre-tournament camp in Charlotte, NC has opened with select members of the Canadian squad already present. The bulk of the team is expected next week when Jesse Marsch is expected to announce his 26-player roster on May 29 live on TSN.
David’s potential inclusion, even as an impact substitute, would be a boon for Canada’s offence, which has scored just four goals in its past six friendlies.
Although big and powerful in his six-foot-five frame, David is an instinctive goal scorer inside the opponent’s penalty box.
He has 39 goals in 78 appearances for USG and three goals in eight appearances for Canada.
Canada opens its tournament on June 12 in Toronto against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
