The New York Rangers are finalizing a trade to send forward Vincent Trocheck to the Utah Mammoth in exchange for defenceman Sean Durzi, forward Cole Beaudoin and a 2027 third-round pick. — The Utah Mammoth are bulking up on Free Agent Frenzy day.
According to TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston, the Mammoth are signing forward Anders Lee on a three-year, $16.2 million deal that carries a $5.4 million cap hit.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Mammoth acquired forward Vincent Trocheck in a trade with the New York Rangers with defenceman Sean Durzi, forward Cole Beaudoin and a 2027 third-round pick heading back to New York.
Lee, 35, had 19 goals and 42 points in 82 games with the New York Islanders last season.
The 6-foot-3 winger is coming off a seven-year, $49 million contract that carried a cap hit of $7 million.
Drafted 152nd overall by the Islanders in 2009, Lee has 308 goals and 549 points in 923 career games and was named captain of the Islanders in October of 2018.
Lee helped lead the Islanders to the Eastern Conference Final in 2020 and 2021, losing to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning both times.
The Edina, Minn., native represented the United States three times at the World Hockey Championship, taking home bronze medals in 2015 and 2018.
Trocheck, 33, had 16 goals and 53 points in 67 games with the Rangers last season.
The 5-foot-11 centre is entering the fifth season of a seven-year, $39.375 million contract that carries an annual cap hit of $5.625 million. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2028-29 campaign.
Drafted 64th overall by the Florida Panthers in 2011, Trocheck has 239 goals and 631 points in 868 career games split between the Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, and Rangers.
The Pittsburgh native represented the United States at The Winter Olympic Games this season, recording three assists en route to a gold medal. He also represented his country at last year’s 4 Nations Face-Off in a second-place finish.
Trocheck represented the United States at the 2014 World Hockey Championship in a fourth-place finish.
