Montreal took a 2-0 series lead in the best-of-five after a pair of overtime wins and had the chance to clinch the title on Monday night, but Ottawa stormed back in Game 3 to deny the Victoire the Walter Cup.
Scoreless through most of Game 3, Hayley Scamurra got Montreal on the board first seven and half minutes into the third.
But the Charge refused to quit as forward Peyton Hemp tied the game with six and half minutes remaining, setting the table for Rebecca Leslie to score the game-winning goal with a minute left to secure a 2-1 win.
In Game 1 of the series, it was Abby Roque and Nicole Gosling who came up with the heroics in a dramatic 3-2 overtime win for Montreal.
Leslie scored the go-ahead goal for the Charge with four minutes left in the third before Gosling scored the tying goal with three seconds left in regulation to send it to the extra frame.
Roque struck early in overtime as she scored just two and a half minutes in for the 1-0 series lead.
Game 2 would also need extra time with a 1-1 tie after three periods. Captain Marie-Philip Poulin came off the bench and picked up the puck and found a wide-open Maggie Flaherty, who beat Gwyneth Philips for the game winner.
With a win tonight, the Victoire would become the first Canadian team in league history to capture the Walter Cup after the Minnesota Frost, who Montreal eliminated in the semifinals, won the first two titles.
Meanwhile for Ottawa, they are looking to force a deciding Game 5 and find redemption after losing in the finals last year.
If necessary, Game 5 of the series would go Saturday afternoon in Montreal.
