The Florida Panthers acquired the rights to Radko Gudas in exchange for the rights to AJ Greer as both teams got a jump on the free-agent market on Monday.
Both Gudas and Greer are both pending unrestricted freed agents, with TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reporting Gudas already liked the potential fit in Florida and that Greer should get an offer from the Ducks shortly.
Gudas, who served as Ducks captain, could join Brady Tkachuk and Garnet Hathaway as new additions to a Panthers lineup that has only gotten meaner this summer.
“Radko Gudas captained our club with heart and soul over the last two seasons while making a great impact in our community,” Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek said. “We offer our thanks and wish him great success going forward. We hope to sign A.J. to a contract and look forward to what he can bring to our club.”
Gudas, 36, recorded two goals, 13 points, and 67 penalty minutes in 56 games with the Anaheim Ducks last season and captained the team the last two years.
He only appeared in one playoff game due to injury as the Ducks were eliminated in the second round.
The 6-foot, right-shot blueliner is coming off a three-year, $12 million contract that carried a cap hit of $4 million.
Drafted 66th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2010, Gudas has 42 goals and 211 points in 885 career games split between the Lightning, Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals, Florida Panthers, and Ducks.
The Prague, Czechia native represented his country at Milano Cortina 2026, appearing in five games in an eighth-place finish. He also represented his country at The Winter Olympics in 2014 in a sixth-place finish.
Greer, 29, had 17 goals and 32 points in 78 games with the Florida Panthers last season.
The 6-foot-3 winger is coming off a two-year, $1.7 million contract that carried a cap hit of $850,000.
Drafted 39th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in 2015, Greer has 36 goals and 81 points in 326 career games split between the Avalanche, New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins, Calgary Flames, and Panthers.
Greer recorded two goals and three points in 16 playoff games as he helped the Panthers to their second of back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 2025.
