It appears a change of scenery has helped Mitch Marner’s postseason performance.
The talented playmaking winger leads the NHL with 13 points in the playoffs, including six goals and seven assists over nine games for the Vegas Golden Knights.
Marner is two points ahead of Minnesota Wild stars Quinn Hughes and Kirill Kaprizov as well as Vegas teammate Jack Eichel after netting his first career playoff hat trick and adding an assist in a 6-2 rout of the Anaheim Ducks in Game 3 on Friday.

The Golden Knights lead the second-round series 2-1 after defeating the Utah Mammoth in six games in the opening round.
“It’s always nice to try to contribute, but at the end of the day, you just want to win games,” Marner said after the win on Friday. “There’s been a lot of different moments so far in this playoffs that people have stepped up and made big plays. Tonight, (there were) a lot of great plays by people around me to set me up in a spot where I could succeed.”
Marner tallied just two goals and 11 assists over 13 playoff games last spring during his final season with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The lack of playoff production became a prevailing narrative for Marner during his nine years in Toronto, especially in Game 7s.
Across six Game 7 and one do-or-die Game 5 against the Columbus Blue Jackets in the bubble playoffs of 2020, Marner produced just two assists.
Golden Knight head coach John Tortorella, who took over for the fired Bruce Cassidy in late March, praised Marner for his resiliency after the win.
“I think (Marner) is very confident in what he brings,” Tortorella said. ”People give him (grief) all the time about playoffs, and this and that, and I don’t think it bothers him a lick. He just plays. He’s a hockey player, and I’m glad he’s doing some things for us.”
The 29-year-old native of Markham, Ont., scored 24 goals and 56 assists over 81 games in 2025-26, his first season with the Golden Knights.
Game 4 goes Thursday night in Anaheim.
