Portugal, Croatia to play Round of 32 match in Toronto on July 2

Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric are heading to Toronto for the FIFA World Cup knockout stage.

Portugal and Croatia will square off at Toronto Stadium on Thursday, July 2 in the Round of 32 after each side finished second in their groups during the preliminary round.

This will mark the final match played at Toronto Stadium during this year’s World Cup. Vancouver will host two knockout-stage matches.

Portugal placed second in Group K with five points after drawing 0-0 with Colombia Saturday night in Miami. They had one win and two draws during group stage play.

Also on Saturday night, Croatia defeated Ghana 2-1 in Philadelphia, but were unable to track down England for the top spot in Group L. Croatia managed six points with two wins and one loss, while England tallied two wins and a draw.

Ronaldo’s brace against Uzbekistan on Tuesday in a 5-0 rout made him the first player ever to score in six different FIFA World Cups. He now has 10 World Cup goals in his career.

Modric has yet to score so far at this year’s tournament.

Croatia will play their second game in Toronto during this year’s World Cup, having beat Panama 1-0 on June 23.
