Canadian Alphonso Davies was forced off the field in the 47th minute of Bayern Munich’s match against Frankfurt on Saturday.

After evaluation, the club said that Davies suffered a torn muscle fibre in his right hamstring.

TSN’s Matthew Scianitti reported later Saturday that the injury is being described as a “small hamstring tear.”

“There’s some relief in that, but also lots of caution,” Scianitti wrote in a social media post on X. “His rehab and reloading (explosiveness) will likely be a very careful process.”

He will be sidelined “for the time being,” according to Bayern Munich.

Davies, 25, returned from an ACL tear in January and was working his way back to form ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer.

Davies has spent the past eight seasons in the Bundesliga, tallying nine goals in 161 appearances. He has made 58 international appearances for Canada since 2017, scoring 15 goals, including Canada’s first-ever goal at the FIFA World Cup in 2022 against Croatia.

Davies wasn’t the only member of Canada’s men’s national team to go down with an injury on Saturday as Promise David was stretchered off the field during Union SG’s match against Antwerp in Belgium on Saturday.

The incident occurred in the second half of a 1-1 game when David and Antwerp defender Daam Foulon both attempted to head the ball, but their heads collided with each other.

Canada co-hosts the World Cup with the United States and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
