Ottawa Senators defenceman Tyler Kleven is on the ice for practice in a non-contact jersey as the team prepares for Game 1 of their first-round playoff series tomorrow against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Kleven, who is also sporting a full visor plus a plastic tray across the jaw of his helmet, has not played Apr. 2 against Buffalo due to an upper-body injury.

Head coach Travis Green said on Friday that Kleven is “closer” to returning but did not indicate if he’ll play Game 1.

Kleven took a puck to the face against the Sabres six minutes into the contest and departed the game as Ottawa went on to win 4-1.

Two days later, Green dubbed the 24-year-old defenceman as week to week and that “he’ll be out for awhile.”

In 70 regular-season games this year, he scored three goals with a career-high 18 points while averaging 17:21 of ice time.

Kleven is in the first season of a two-year, $3.2 million contract.
