The Montreal Canadiens have signed forward Ivan Demidov to a eight-year, $73.2 million contract extension that carries a cap hit of $9.15 million, per a team release.
Demidov, 20, led all rookies in scoring last season with 19 goals and 62 points in 82 games and finished second to New York Islanders standout defenceman Matthew Schaefer in Calder Trophy voting.
He added three goals and nine points in 19 playoff games before the Canadiens were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Final.
TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun provided a breakdown of the contract, that includes $57.6 million in signing bonus money and a 10-team no-trade clause for the final three seasons of the deal.

The 6-foot-1 winger is entering the final season of his three-year, entry-level contract and was scheduled to become a restricted free agent at the end of the 2026-27 campaign.
Demidov was drafted fifth overall by the Canadiens in the 2024 draft and spent the 2024-25 season with St. Petersburg of the KHL. He recorded 19 goals and 49 points that season to
break current Minnesota Wild superstar Kirill Kaprizov’s previous record of most points by an under-20 player.
The Sergiyev Posad, Russia, native joined the Canadiens at the end of the 2024-25 campaign, registering a goal and an assist in two regular season games and then adding two more assists in the playoffs.
