Indiana battles Miami in the CFP Championship on TSN

Published:

The Indiana Hoosiers and the Miami Hurricanes are set to do battle on Monday for the right to be named College Football Playoff champions.

Indiana entered the College Football Playoff as the No. 1 seed and defeated No. 9 Alabama and No. 5 Oregon in the Rose Bowl and Peach Bowl, respectively, to reach the championship game.

They are led by quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who won the 2025 Heisman Trophy after leading the Hoosiers to a perfect 15-0 season.

The 22-year-old joined Indiana through the transfer portal for the 2025 season after playing two seasons with the University of California.

Mendoza led the nation with 41 touchdowns this season to go along with 3,349 passing yards and only six interceptions.

The Hoosiers are looking for their first national championship after falling in the first round to Notre Dame last season in their first appearance under the current format. Their previous best finish was a Rose Bowl appearance in 1967.

If Indiana claims victory on Monday, it will be the first time a school claims their first national championship since Florida captured its first in 1996.

Miami have been the underdogs for the whole tournament, entering playoff action as the No. 10 seed.

The Hurricanes defeated No. 7 Texas A&M in the first round and went on to take down No. 2 Ohio State and No. 6 Ole Miss in the Cotton Bowl and Fiesta Bowl, respectively. They are looking to complete the Cinderella run with a win on Monday.

Miami is led by pivot Carson Beck, who led the team to a 13-2 record this season. The 23-year-old joined Miami from the transfer portal after spending four seasons as a Georgia Bulldog.

Beck threw for 3,581 yards with 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions as he looks to end his NCAA career with a championship.

The Hurricanes have won five national championships in the school’s history but haven’t been to a national championship game since 2002.
