South Carolina is headed back to the Women’s NCAA Tournament national championship.

The top-seeded Gamecocks defeated No. 1 UConn 62-48 Friday night in Phoenix to punch their ticket to Sunday’s final for the fourth time in five years.

Ta’Niya Latson had a team-high 16 points and was one of four players in double figures for the Gamecocks in the win.

Dawn Staley’s team won it all in 2024 and 2022 but were blown out by UConn in last year’s final. They finished 35-3 during the season this year and spoke about wanting to atone for last year’s dud in the title game all year long.

Staley and UConn head coach Geno Auriemma - the winningest coach in college basketball history - got into a heated discussion and had to be separated at the end of the game.

No. 1 Texas and No. 1 UCLA will play for the other spot in the women’s final on Friday night for a chance to play South Carolina in the final.

More to come.
