The PGA Tour returns to one of the cathedrals of golf this week for the first signature event of the season, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

A star-studded 80-player field will take to Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill from just outside of the Bay Area to compete for 750 FedEx Cup points and a share of the $20 million purse befitting an elevated event.

The first 36 holes of the tournament will be played alongside celebrities, famous athletes, and other notable amateurs on both courses, before the the action shifts over to Pebble Beach over the weekend for the Tour pros to take centre stage for the remainder of the tournament.

This week also marks the season debut for world No. 2 Rory McIlroy, who is back to defend his title from last year.

McIlroy began his 2025 season with a victory at Pebble Beach, and went on to enjoy one of the best years of his storied career with wins at The Players Championship, The Masters, the Amgen Irish Open, and the Ryder Cup with Team Europe at Bethpage.

The Northern Irishman has already played in two events on the European DP World Tour in 2026, garnering mixed results with T3 and T33 finishes in Dubai.

McIlroy will be looking for similar results for this week’s tournament, but will be tasked with taking on one of the strongest fields assembled so far this season at Pebble Beach.

18 of the top 20 players in the world on the Official World Golf Rankings are set to play this week, including world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Farmers Insurance Open winner Justin Rose, and reigning FedEx Cup champion Tommy Fleetwood.

Scheffler is in fine form coming off of a T3 finish at last week’s WM Phoenix Open, finishing just one stroke shy of forcing a three-man playoff to decide the tournament.

The four-time major champion showed his resolve in the desert after shooting 2-over on Thursday, and scorched TPC Scottsdale for rounds of 65, 67, and 63 to continue his streak of 17 top-10 finishes.

“I played pretty well,” said Scheffler after the tournament. “Only one round where I didn’t have my best stuff. If I get in the house the first day with a couple under par it’s a little different story today.”

Rose last teed it up at the Farmers and blew away the field for a seven-shot victory, breaking the 72-hole record at Torrey Pines set by Tiger Woods in 1999.

“Those days or those weeks or those rounds are definitely showing me that the gas is still in the tank,” said the 45-year-old Englishman after his record-breaking performance at the Farmers. “Obviously, accessing it is the job now. How do I do that more often? That’s always the trick, but at least knowing it’s there is builds a lot of confidence.”

Already a winner at this event in 2023, Rose is a strong bet to contend this time around after another strong showing, a T3 finish, at Pebble Beach last year.

Like McIlroy, Fleetwood is also set to make his PGA Tour season debut this week after enjoying a stunning finish to 2025.

Following yet another heartbreak at the Travelers Championship that denied him his first career win on Tour, Fleetwood played arguably the best golf of his career down the stretch at the FedEx Cup Playoffs with back-to-back top five finishes before finally getting over the hump at the Tour Championship to claim the lucrative season-long title.

Fresh off of his breakthrough win, Fleetwood would then head to the Ryder Cup with Team Europe, and shook off the hostile crowds at Bethpage to finish as the leading point scorer while leading his side to victory for the second consecutive playing of the event.

The field also includes Xander Schauffele, Robert MacIntyre, Shane Lowry, and Jordan Spieth, as well as Chris Gotterup and Hideki Matsuyama after the two went head-to-head in a playoff at the WM Phoenix Open.

There will also be four Canadians playing in the first signature event of the year with Nick Taylor, Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith, and Mackenzie Hughes making up the Canadian contingent.

Taylor and Hughes both shot 7-under for the tournament for a share of 28th at the Waste Management, while Conners was sent home early after finishing three shots outside the cutline after the second round.

It was the first time in over a calendar year that Conners missed the cut at a PGA Tour-sanctioned event, snapping a streak of 22 consecutive tournaments.
