CORTINA D’AMPEZZO — When Canada last won team curling gold at the Winter Olympics, it was Brad Jacobs who skipped the national men’s side to victory.
The 2014 Sochi Olympic champion hopes to get back to the top of the podium at the 2026 Milan Cortina Games.
Rachel Homan will skip the Canadian women’s team while Jacobs’ teammate — Brett Gallant — will go for the double with Jocelyn Peterman in mixed doubles play.
Here’s a look at the Canadian curlers set to compete at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium (with name, hometown):
JOCELYN PETERMAN (Chestermere, Alta.)
Peterman made her Olympic debut in 2022 on a team with the now-retired Jennifer Jones, who skipped Canada to its last Olympic women’s team title in 2014.
Peterman and Gallant — a husband-and-wife duo — will open their round-robin schedule Wednesday against Czechia.
BRETT GALLANT (Chestermere, Alta.)
Gallant, who won Olympic bronze in Beijing on a men’s team with Brad Gushue, is the first Canadian curler to play in two disciplines at the same Games.
A five-time Brier champion, Gallant also throws second stones for Jacobs. The Canadian men’s team begins round-robin play Feb. 11 against Germany.
RACHEL HOMAN (Beaumont, Alta.)
Homan is hoping the third time is the charm at the Winter Games.
She missed the podium in her Olympic team debut in 2018 and didn’t make the playoffs when she returned in mixed doubles in 2022 with John Morris.
Homan’s top-ranked women’s team has won three Grand Slam of Curling events this season. Canada will open its round-robin schedule on Feb. 12 against Denmark.
TRACY FLEURY (Sudbury, Ont.)
Fleury, who plays third and is making her Olympic debut, joined the Homan side at the start of the quadrennial after lead Joanne Courtney stepped back from competitive curling.
Fleury nearly qualified to represent Canada at the 2022 Games. She reached the final of the Olympic Trials but lost to Jones in an extra end.
EMMA MISKEW (Ottawa)
Miskew and Homan have played together since their preteen junior days in Ottawa.
A three-time world champion, Miskew spent most of her career at the third position before shifting to second a couple of years ago.
SARAH WILKES (London, Ont.)
Wilkes won her first national women’s title in 2019 with skip Chelsea Carey and later added two more crowns with Homan.
She played second when she first joined Homan’s rink in 2020, but now throws lead rocks.
BRAD JACOBS (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.)
Jacobs took the long road to Olympic glory over a decade ago. He won the Pre-Trials event in 2013 as well as the main Trials before winning gold in Sochi.
This time around, he earned a direct berth in the eight-team playdowns and beat Matt Dunstone in the final to secure his return to the Games.
MARC KENNEDY (St. Albert, Alta.)
Kennedy won Olympic gold at the 2010 Vancouver Games on a team skipped by Kevin Martin.
The left-hander returned to the Games in 2018 with skip Kevin Koe and served as an alternate four years ago for Gushue’s rink.
BEN HEBERT (Chestermere, Alta.)
One of the strongest leads in the sport at age 42, Hebert has loads of big-game and Olympic experience.
Like Kennedy, he won Olympic gold in 2010 and returned to the Games with Koe’s side in 2018. Hebert is also a five-time Brier champion and two-time world champion.
