Ronda Rousey could be poised for a comeback.
BoxingScene’s Lance Pugmire reports the former UFC Bantamweight Champion and Olympic bronze medallist in judo is in talks to fight former undisputed light welterweight champion and Olympic gold medallist Katie Taylor.
While having trained in boxing as part of her mixed martial arts training, Rousey has never boxed before.
Rousey, 38, has not fought since back-to-back losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes in 2015 and 2016. She finished her UFC career with a 12-2 record. Rousey went on to spend five years in World Wrestling Entertainment from 2018 to 2023. This past fall, Rousey said she had retired from professional wrestling.
Though noncommittal about her future, Rousey has resumed training in recent months.
Taylor, 39, has a career record of 25-1 (six knockouts). She most recently fought this past July at Madison Square Garden, defeating Amanda Serrano by majority decision. It was her second straight victory over Serrano. This past September, the Bray, Ireland native announced a hiatus from the sport.
Sources tell Pugmire that Netflix, who broadcasted both Taylor-Serrano fights, is interested in a potential Rousey-Taylor bout and would see it as a summer event.
