The Toronto Blue Jays have reinstated Dylan Cease from the 15-day injured list and will get the ball on Tuesday night against the Philadelphia Phillies, the team announced.
Left-hander Adam Macko has been optioned to Triple-A Buffalo to make room for Cease on the big-league roster.
Cease, 30, hit the injured list last month after suffering a hamstring injury during his start against the Pittsburgh Pirates on May 24.
The hard-throwing righty resumed throwing shortly after and made a rehab start with Buffalo last week where he struggled to the tune of five earned runs over four innings.
Cease has pitched to a 3-3 record with a 3.05 earned run average and a 1.21 WHIP with 92 strikeouts across 62.0 innings pitched in 11 starts.
He is in the first season of a seven-year, $210 million contract signed in free agency this winter.
Macko, 25, heads back down to Triple-A after making 12 appearances for Toronto in his first stint in the big leagues.
The Slovakian-born, Canadian-raised lefty was called up on May 17th after reliever Tommy Nance was placed on the injured list, and debuted one day later against the New York Yankees.
He pitched to a 1.50 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 12 innings of work, racking up 12 strikeouts to just two walks.
Originally a seventh-round pick of the Seattle Mariners in 2019, Macko was acquired by the Blue Jays alongside Erik Swanson in a trade for slugging outfielder Teoscar Hernandez.
The Blue Jays (32-25) send Cease to the hill opposite Zach Wheeler on Tuesday as they look to split the first two games of the series following a 5-2 loss to the Phillies on Monday.
