Morning Coffee: What are the odds CFL road underdogs repeat Week 1 success?

Published:

Road teams went a combined 3-0 straight up and against the spread in Week 1 of the CFL regular season.

First up, Davis Alexander led the Montreal Alouettes to another comeback victory in overtime with a 30-27 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as a 2.5-point favourite in a rematch of last year’s Eastern Final.

Then Brady Oliveira ran for 113 yards and Jake Ceresna registered three sacks in his debut for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in a 30-28 win over the Calgary Stampeders as a 1.5-point favourite on Friday Night Football.

On Saturday night, Justin Rankin carried the underdog Edmonton Elks to a 29-21 win over the Ottawa Redblacks with nearly 200 scrimmage yards, including a 63-yard TD.

The over went 2-0-1 with a push in Ottawa where the 50 total points was enough to land right on the number.

Turning the page to Week 2, Winnipeg and Montreal are favoured by more than a field goal at home against the visiting Tiger-Cats and Toronto Argonauts, respectively.

The Bombers are a 3.5-point favourite versus Hamilton in their home opener on Thursday night.

The Alouettes are -6.5 for their home opener against Toronto on Friday Night Football.

Then it’s a highly anticipated showdown between the top choices to win the West Division as the defending Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders face off with the BC Lions in their season openers.

Saskatchewan is -1.5 with the total at 52.5 at FanDuel.

What are the odds that the road teams sweep again?

A three-team parlay with Hamilton, Toronto, and BC to all win outright on the road would pay +1644 at FanDuel.

That number represents a 5.4 per cent implied chance.

All three games to go over the total would pay +582.

Prior to the start of CFL Week 2, the biggest tournament of the summer will kick off when Mexico faces South Africa on Thursday afternoon in Mexico City.

In case you missed it, Steven Caldwell, Kevin Kilbane, and Luke Wileman delivered a special episode of Park The Bus live from St. John’s Tavern in Toronto, Ontario as the hype continues to build ahead of the tournament opener.

Meanwhile, Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs proved they aren’t done yet with a 115-111 win over the New York Knicks in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

Wembanyama became the second-youngest player with a 30-point, five-rebound, five-assist NBA Finals game as San Antonio’s title odds were cut from +340 to +154.

The Spurs are +112 to tie the series on Wednesday night.

Tonight, the Stanley Cup Final continues with Game 4.

After a thrilling 5-4 double overtime win on Saturday night, the Vegas Golden Knights are -102 to win Game 4 and -192 to win the Stanley Cup at FanDuel this morning.

Carolina is -113 to win tonight and +158 to win the Cup.

Will the Hurricanes respond in Game 4 and send the series back to Raleigh tied 2-2?

Or will Vegas take a commanding 3-1 lead on home ice?

It’s time to lock in a FanDuel Best Bet for Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final in this Morning Coffee column for Tuesday June 9th, 2026.

FanDuel Best Bets For Game 4 Of The Stanley Cup Final

The closest thing to a lock for Game 4 tonight is that it will be nearly impossible for the Hurricanes and Golden Knights to top the theatrics that played out in Game 3 on Saturday night.

Conn Smythe Trophy favourite Mitch Marner scored a natural hat-trick and became just the second player in Stanley Cup Final history to register a four-point period.

Carolina could be found at +5500 to win live at FanDuel after falling behind 4-0 on the road.

The Hurricanes responded with three goals in a span of 39 seconds in the third period – the fastest three goals by one team in a game in Stanley Cup Final history.

Andrei Svechnikov scored a powerplay goal with less than two minutes left in regulation to tie it at 4-4.

However, the Golden Knights weathered the storm in the first overtime period, setting the stage for Shea Theodore to play the hero with the winner in double overtime with a little Las Vegas luck.

What can we expect for the rematch tonight in Vegas?

The 25 combined goals are the most through the first three games of a Stanley Cup Final since 1981.

The Golden Knights and Hurricanes have averaged 8.3 goals per game in the series, with all three games decided by one goal, including the last two in overtime.

Will we see another high-scoring affair tonight?

The total is 5.5 and it’s juiced to the over at -128.

Marner, who is coming off his eighth multi-point performance and leads all skaters with 28 points this postseason, is -290 to register 1+ points tonight.

Marner 2+ points is +180 at FanDuel.

Marner 1+ assists is -148 after cashing in each of the first three games of the Stanley Cup Final.

In case you missed it, Marner to win the Conn Smythe Trophy is now -230 at FanDuel.

Vegas to win the Stanley Cup is -192.

Meanwhile, no other player on either team is shorter than +500 to win the Conn Smythe Trophy at FanDuel.

Marner, Theodore, Brett Howden, and Brayden McNabb have all registered five or more points for the Golden Knights in this Stanley Cup Final.

McNabb has hit that mark despite playing only 5:39 in Game 2 before getting hit with a slap shot to the face.

He registered three points in Game 1 and two in Game 3.

McNab to register 1+ points tonight is currently off the board at FanDuel this morning.

Theodore to register 1+ points is +104.

Howden to register 1+ points is +102.

Howden anytime goal scorer is +250.

As for a FanDuel Best Bet, I’m going to lock in the over 5.5 at -128.

I made the point before Game 1 that I didn’t think that the Hurricanes would struggle to protect a lead against the Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Final.

It turns out that neither team has had much success defending a lead in the series.

Carolina led 2-0 in Game 1 and lost 5-4 in regulation.

Vegas leads 2-0 in Game 2 and lost 4-3 in overtime.

Then the Golden Knights led 4-0 in Game 3, allowed four straight goals, and needed Theodore’s double overtime winner to avoid a historic loss.

While a crucial Game 4 might be played a little tighter, it could be a situation in which neither team needs many opportunities to capitalize once again.

In a series that has featured 25 combined goals for an average of 8.5 per game, I’ll bank on getting six or more tonight to cash the over 5.5.

I’ll also add Marner 1+ assists -148 and Howden 2+ shots on goal to my card as FanDuel Best Bets for Game 4.

Have a great day, everyone!
